Anxiety and Panic Symptoms

Anxiety and Panic Symptoms May Not Be Alike

The term anxiety is a catch all word that's used to describe many mental conditions. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, NIMH, there are five major types of anxiety disorders.
These include:

Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD

Panic Disorder

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder

Each of the above anxiety disorders can also have several subtypes of the condition. This is why it's almost impossible to stay with any degree of certainty a complete list of related anxiety and panic symptoms.

While many anxiety panic attack symptoms are common, you should be aware that there are specific symptomatic indicators for each anxiety disorder type and subtype.

If you're interest is in diagnosis of a specific disorder, you should consider the services of a qualified professional psychological counselor. Unlike a physical illness, mental disorders are much more complex and difficult to accurately diagnose. With the help of a good counselor, you will also be able to develop and anxiety panic treatment plan that will work for you.

One of the most prevalent symptoms of almost all anxiety disorders including panic is a constant state of worry and/or fear. Left to itself, this fear and anxiety can develop into an irrational state that can terrify.

Panic is a sudden surge of overwhelming fear that can come on without warning. The physical symptoms of panic attack can also mimic physical illness due to the intensity.

So while many anxiety disorders are identified as a constant fear it's only when that fear becomes overwhelming that panic ensues. This is why it's important to to recognize that anxiety and panic, though related are separate issues
