Many people at one time or another have experienced panic and anxiety. A panic attack is really a very normal response in the right circumstances. You would expect do when confronted by a dangerous situation your adrenaline would kick in to prepare you can either fight off the danger or flee from it. In this situation, you would expect to your heart would start racing, you may become flushed due to faster breathing and more oxygenation of your blood, your stomach may start to tighten and you even may began to shake in preparation and response to a possible physical demand. This is very similar to a panic attack and anxiety is really like.
Have you ever watched shows like the old Fear Factor? It's a show where people face their fears and do things to remain in the game to make money. If you watch closely many of these people had a sense of fear or worry even though they knew it was a television show and the situations were under control. These normal people, placed in extraordinary situations, would have their anxiety and worry levels released and near breaking points.
How about going to an intense movie? We're talking about a motion picture that is not only suspenseful but also part horrifying? The latest movies of this genre are shows like Hostel and a Saw series. Previous movies that fit this category were the old Halloween series, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and many others.
You remember how you felt watching them? You probably had a feeling that your heart was pounding or racing and may have had a lump in your throat that made it difficult to breathe. Many people watching these types of movies report sweating chest pain and even nausea and cramping. These are all signs of panic.
Now imagine walking out to your mailbox to check the mail in those same feelings of overwhelming dread anxiety and fear wash over you. No dangerous situation, television show, or movie triggering those feelings but simply a safe easy walk down to the mailbox. Out of nowhere and for no apparent reason your heart starts pounding you start to sweat you have nausea, cramping and dizziness and think you might die.
