Anxiety as well as catch all words that actually mean different things to different people. Heck, the psychological and psychiatric studies and research that's been ongoing for decades continues to evolve. This means that even the professionals don't really have a good understanding of the condition we call anxiety
There are several types of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, various phobias, panic disorder and the ever popular obsessive compulsive disorder.
Although it seems sometimes to those of us living with anxiety symptoms that it's an illness, many professionals have identified anxiety disorders as a condition. Not being in that formal profession, I fail to see the importance of identifying anxiety and panic attacks as a condition or illness
I guess the biggest issue professionals deal with is the fact that many of the anxiety attack symptoms that have been identified could be considered normal and healthy reactions depending on the situation. Fear of dying is a normal reaction during an intense situation like an auto accident that is not really appropriate when going out to the edge of the driveway to check the mail.
There are also social anxiety aspects of the larger condition. Social anxiety can be anything from a fear of being in public places to being overly fearful about math test. So it appears that out-of-control anxiety symptoms that cause us to struggle in every day life situations is truly the biggest consideration.
So it's understandable that professionals working in the field of psychology continue to have difficulty understanding the complexity of an anxiety disorder. Add to this the complex nature of us as humans and the task of getting an anxiety condition under control can seem daunting
It's important to remember that if you or a loved one is suffering with anxiety symptoms it's important to get control of the situation as quickly as possible. Allowing this condition to continue, other, more serious mental disorders such as depression can develop.

Adults with borderline personality disorder often seek caretaking through the manipulation of others, leaving them often feeling empty, angry and abandoned, which may lead to desperate and impulsive behavior.
Dementia -- A group of mental disorders involving a general loss of intellectual abilities, including memory, judgment and abstract thinking. Dementias may be associated with poor impulse control and personality changes.
