Do You Have a General Anxiety Disorder? Excessive worrying seems to be a fact of life in today's society. Heck, let's face it, we have a lot to worry about. Jobs, kids, personal relationships, society in general, the world becoming more dangerous than even our own survival are all things that thinking people are not only concerned about but also worrying themselves sick over it.
The problem with this disorder however is that someone needs to determine how much worry is considered excessive. A good example is an compulsive obsessive disorder. Although not technically a part of GAD, OCD sufferers do things continually due to a fear or worry about a situation. As of 2006, the military action in Iraq has been ongoing longer than World War II. Worrying about the impact of the situation should be ongoing for many thinking and contemplative people. This example was offered to eliminate the excuse of healthy worry and concern a very large matters. Generalized anxiety disorders typically involve excessive worry about much more common in mundane, everyday things. We're talking about anxiety caused from having to perform basic life routines. Generalized anxiety disorders are typically treated with a combination of medication and psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy. Treatment depends primarily on the severity of the condition and the persons preference. It's critical to obtain an accurate diagnosis as soon as possible.
