Anxiety Depression Medication | ||
Right from the start it's important to understand that I'm not suggesting anyone great using their prescribed medications. How you deal with the side effects and changes to your personality caused from the medicine is up to you. At the very least you should consider talking with your doctor before stopping any type of prescribed drugs.
I was diagnosed with depression, about 10 years ago and was told that this was a highly treatable disorder. The treatments that were suggested included group counseling and antidepressants. The antidepressants were group of the relatively new SSRIs or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Typical side effects of this class of drugs includes nausea, sexual dysfunction sweating, sleep disturbances and tremors along with an increase in blood pressure. Attacking anxiety and depression is not simply a matter of positive thinking or taking a pill. For me, overcoming my sad mood and mental depression with critical as my depression symptoms continued to worsen. One of the drugs that I try and actually did a good job in raising my mood level was Wellbutrin. Although a raise my mood, at least as well as many of the other SSRIs, it caused unmanageable constipation and was abandoned. Another depression medication tried was Prozac. This did a great job on my anxiety and depression and made it much easier to make it through the day. So much easier in fact, but I just didn't care much about anything. Prozac traded my serious anxiety and depression for a melancholy attitude. I found that overcoming depression using this medication I ended up trading one set of problems for another. One of the most popular anxiety medications is Zoloft. One of the top 20 most prescribed medications in the country, Zoloft is apparently effective for many people. The doctor prescribed is medicine at 100 mg dosage and warned that it may take several weeks for it to take effect. After two days, however, the effect was apparent on my sex life as it had effectively disappeared. Two days and complete sexual dysfunction was the result. On a return visit to the doctor I reported that the Zoloft treatment not only effectively ended my sex life but also raise my blood pressure almost 20 points. She suggested that I lower the dosage to 50 mg a day and see if that would help. After two weeks I was happy to report that the sexual dysfunction was minimized though not corrected completely. I suggested that low dosage Zoloft may be ineffective treatment for premature ejaculation as it was my experience that even on a low dose, the length of time to complete sexual activity was substantially lengthened. Over the course of several months my mental depression had remained relatively constant. Through trial and error I found that most of the medications available today have significant side effects that limited their use and effectiveness for me. I don't believe that there is an actual cure for anxiety or depression, only strategies that allow a sufferer to control the emotional responses. I'm now completely off prescription medications as I have found treatment that works for me. It started when I noticed that my day I had been taking vitamins and minerals supplements for years. He hadan ulserated intestine which is a form of colitis that in many cases develops into cancer over a period of years. He also took sulfa type drugs, but over a period of years would have compromised his blood. What was interesting was that after 10 years of taking potentially damaging medications, all my father's blood work was not compromised in the colitis had not progressed. The medical doctors couldn't say for certain that it was the vitamins and minerals but admitted that they couldn't hurt and that whatever he was doing he should continue because something was apparently keeping him healthy. That's when I decided to start a regimen of vitamins and minerals that were formulated for overall health and a focus on mental function. At the same time, I also began a daily exercise program that I continue to this day. I also spent several hours a week in quiet meditation convincing myself to remain in control of my anxiety and depression symptoms. Some may claim that this is a cure but I prefer to acknowledge that this is nothing more than a treatment that allows me to maintain control. Depression is a long term illness that at least for me could not be treated with a simple medication You should really Bookmark this site and check back to to see what other methods and strategies I've used to combat depression.
