Stress Addiction Family | ||
The Problem of Stress Addiction Family Is Growing The subject of stress and how addiction may impact your family unit is an issue that should be viewed with an open mind. It's easy to point fingers at the person who abuses drugs or alcohol and label them an addict. The problem with many family units and stress however is related to how we define addiction. It's been said that we in this country are some of the most pampered people on the planet. We have huge stores of material goods but with a growing problem.
It's simplistic to assume that the stress in your life is because your mother, father, or other family member is a drug addict or an alcoholic. Geneology may play a factor in a persons addictive tendencies but is by not means the reason for the stress levels experienced by your kids and others. Why is there a growing problem of stress even in families and huge social segments of the population that does NOT deal with alcoholic or drug addiction? The answer is that we've become, at least to one degree or another addicted ourselves. While society has given itself a pass on behavior that in a different generation be considered hazardous to the family, individual actions continue to take advantage of the lack of responsibility or accountability. The consequences of our actions and the changes in reality are not what we desired and that in turn causes stress to increase. A good example is our current focus on kid obesity. We as parents wring our hands and look to blame video games, school lunch programs etc. but refuse to see our own accountability. We as parents deliver meals in ready to eat segments of fast food, pre-made pizza, pre-packaged lunch and snack products that are all high in the very things that make our kids obese. Because of our unwillingness to cook meals, our kids eat pre-made food that's high in calories and certainly couldn't be considered good for them. The stress for the family then is raised because little Johnny or Jennifer is getting fat. We're unsatisfied with what is happening but don't want to face our own addiction to convenient food and take some responsibility to have a more favorable outcome. Instead, with the blessing of society, we continue to blame everything and everyone else for the results of our own actions. You should really plan to check back often for more anaxiety, depression and addiction information from people who are living with the same problems as you.
