Anxiety is more than just a Feeling Welcome! Mental health is an idea that's based on a persons emotional and psychological well-being. That is, the ability to maintain a certain level of well being or positive "happiness" if you will, to function in society. The term "anxiety" is used by many as a catch all term for many different emotional and mental anxiety disorders. This is very similar to the general term anxiety depression or panic attack with it's various degrees of severity. To maintain this state of "mental health" in today's society however, one almost needs the ability to compartmentalize life to be able to deliver that well being or satisfaction with ones own life at the expense of others. Although many anxiety treatments today include medication, there are other alternative options that have helped many people with depression and mental disorders. There are huge indicators that our society doesn't or cannot maintain that level of compartmentalization. Road rage, school shootings and serious increases in suicide rates especially among our teenagers are good indicators that if the definition and psychology of what passes as a positive mental outlook is accepted, than society may have some serious cracks in our mental stability. It's clear that mental or phychological disorders are not only common but can be found throughout our society. Anxiety disorders ranging from societal anxiety attacks to worry and concern about everyday situations can enter a personal life at any time. Even addictions play a role in anxiety, depressions and other mental disorders. Many alcohol addiction treatment programs suggest that an addiction is a lifelong illness that can only be controlled. Unlike some of the more destructive mental disorders, anxiety and panic attack like phobias can change how a person views the world. Unfortunately, society continues to expect us suffering with these very real mental health issues to continue as if the mental problems are simply an annoyance rather than the challenge they really are for the one with the disease. I suggest to you that rather than being someone with a classified mental disorder, anxiety, or depression, may be our way of coping with a society that continues to make less sense everyday. Understand, this site is NOT offering psychological counseling or any type of medical psychiatry. I do believe however that the so called professionals in the mental health fields do not have all the answers. This site is dedicated to offering different perspectives about living with anxiety and offer alternative anxiety treatments that may be available. Nothing on this or any other website should take the place of a qualified mental health professional. No website knows you or your situation. I've been fighting depression since I was a young teenager. Although anxiety wasn't a major issue, it wasn't always so. I tried many of the more natural anxiety treatments with varying degrees of success. Using medication to fight off the worst of the mental disorders was not always successful and led to other, more difficult challenges. Panic attacks have been known to come on without notice and are some of the most difficult mental problems to deal with long term. So Bookmark this site and pull up a chair. The fight to maintain a level of mental health that allows us to function in society is an ongoing battle. Hopefully, you will get some ideas on how to deal with mental illness here.
